I love this time of the year. Everyone out and about, long weekend get-aways, grilling and swimming, rooftop cocktails and hanging out on patios…
The vibes are pretty great.
My Memorial Day weekend was amazing. Time with family, exploring Brooklyn (which I absolutely LOVE), drinking too much and eating poorly, soaking up the beautiful weather and enjoying the first glimpse of summer…I’ll be daydreaming about it all week long.
I hope yours was just as fantastic, and I also hope that next time you’re in New York you head over to Brooklyn and spend time hanging out in the bars chatting with strangers, or wandering the neighborhoods taking in the graffiti art and people watching. It’s all so, so good.
Brooklyn Bar To-Drink-At List:
- Surf Bar— With sand on the floor and hours of operation from “Noon to Late” how could you go wrong? The inside is a little dark and warm, but the back patio has a great breeze and a super chill vibe. Dig in your toes in the sand while enjoying delicious fries…oh summertime, I love you.
- Turkey’s Nest— To go margaritas…need I say more? Not totally legal, but what it lacks in legality it makes up for in delciousness, and although the bar is a tiny little dive it sits in the super cute town of Williamsburg. Did I mention the to go margaritas? Check it out.
- Sweet Science— GREAT music, bartenders, and owners, TVs playing the big games, and a declious menu. Whether you go for boozy brunch or for Saturday evening cocktails you will definitely have a good time.
- Our Wicked Lady— The absolute best summer rooftop. Picture this: $7 Mexicali beer and tequila shot combos and turf grass on the roof where you can kick off your shoes, lay under the shade of a tent, toss a beachball around, and listen to music…do you hear it calling your name?
Don’t worry people, I go to all the bars in cities I visit just to weed out the best ones so you don’t have to ;).
All good things must come to an end, and at the end of this weekend I gotta tell you, I felt like crap. So much alcohol, late night pizza, charcuterie trays for dinner, nachos all the time. I think I’ve mentioned this before, but I need to clean. it. up… ALL OF IT.
This is especially true considering I just got my first pool party invitation of the summer…nothing like the potential of being 90% naked to get you motivated for a tone up.
More exercise, less sugar and carbs, and down with all (most) processed garbage.
I’m not unhappy with the way I look overall, but I am seriously lacking in terms of health consciousness and keeping myself active on a consistent basis. So I thought what better way to keep myself motivated and organized than by doing a 30 day clean eating and workout challenge and walking through it with all of you?
I want to keep myself interested and accountable so I plan on doing lots of different types of workouts and getting creative with recipes and healthy snacks. I will be posting my workout plan for the week on Sundays and also a list of recipes I plan to make.
I will also be posting progress pictures and updates on things that are working for me and what has fallen flat.
In the meantime I am going to start off with my first healthy(ish) meal of the week tonight for dinner, a falafel salad, recipe to follow tonight after the attempt…wish me luck.
P.S. if any of you want to jump in on this workout/clean eating plan let me know. I’d love to see your progress and hear what is or is not working for you.
Hope you had a great day back at work.
